My journal of my battle with Crohns disease. I have had Crohn's diagnosed since September 2007. In that time I've been through two surgeries, two colonoscopies, and tons of good and bad times. I want to share my experiences with this disorder and hope to hear some feedback from time to time.

Less Reason to be Afraid of Colon Cancer

Wednesday, March 10, 2010
According to a study just published by the American Journal of Gastroenterology, IBS patients are at no greater risk of having polyps and colon cancer than healthy people undergoing colonoscopies. This doesn't mean that patients are not at a greater risk overall of colon cancer, just that when it comes to colonoscopies they aren't.

The study doesn't mention whether patients with crohns disease are at a greater risk of cancer because of colonoscopies. That is something I will have to look into. I have spoken with my GI about this subject before, and was told that I shouldn't worry.

Colon cancer is actually one of my biggest fears. I am super worried about devoloping it, especially because there seems to be a lot of cancer on both sides of my family. I guess I will have to do my best to try and prevent it.
